DEAN AND JON'S PERSONAL "to do" SUGGESTIONS:
Always use sunscreen as well as wear a wide brim hat and a long sleeve top NB: even when swimming!! .... and try stay out of the direct sun between 10 and 2pm
Walk down Macumba Lane to the beach, turn left at the waters edge and keep walking for about 300m. Your first bay, in which boats moor is completely protected from the wind. Have a swim, take sundowners and watch natures most beautiful sunset light show - and oh... remember to take down some dogfood to feed the beach dogs - they live on the beach and people feed them...
Our favourite day beach is La Cuvette just before Grand Baie, turn right at the casino and you will find it. The swimming is just sublime and there are trees to keep you cool. No swim shoes needed. Order food from the food stalls and drink cold beer on the beach. You will find N'Joy restaurant right there - great food, cold drinks and super live music on Friday nights but remember to book in the evenings
Mont Choisy beach is loooong and wonderful for a run or walk in the shade - take shoes or slops as the beefwood seeds are sharp! Gorgeous swimming - again no swim shoes needed AND dont touch the ropes holding the buoys in the sea..... they have small creatures which leave a sting! Locals love this each on the weekend when they arrive with all the family, music and drums to enjoy the glorious beach. You can also waterski, para sail and tube from the eastern corner of the beach... AND try
Mystic Lifestyle Boutique restaurant which is on the southern end of Mont Choisy beach - relaxed menu, beautiful view and cold drinks...
You can take a 5.5km drive to Daruty Forest - beautiful tall trees and a cool lung to cycle or walk in - walk on both sides of the road...
En Route to Daruty Forest you will pass by Bella Amigo - this is a wonderful fish shop where you can buy fresh salmon, linefish and tuna as well as prawns, crayfish, squid and calamari to name but a few
Pereybere Beach is also a great swimming beach - can get busy with locals on the weekend
In the same parking area to the west of Pereybere beach you will find The Cloud bar and restaurant. Located in a rubber tree with the most wonderful sweeping views north provides the perfect late afternoon spot. Often hve live music and my favourite dish is the salmon or tuna poke bowl
Bring along your goggles and jump into the water off the point at Pereybere for a diving feast which included turtles when I was last there
Take a catamaran trip to the islands with lunch and snorkeling - its just a wonderful day out... use sunscreen and keep covered
Restaurant suggestions - most serve a little of everything: The Beach House (great burgers, pizzas and tuna salad), Eden (a variety) and Les Canisses (Mauritian curry, linefish and pizzas) are on a sandy stretch so sit with your feet in the water. Nitzana is an Indian curry restaurant 700m from Beachwalk - really excellent food
Pls try the bakeries... at your own peril... Pains & Moulins at the Super U centre and Le Fournil at Point Aux Cannoniers
